Forma
A typographic identity system for architecture studios and interior practices. Built for practices with projects worth showing — and the discipline to let the work speak without interference.
Design Rationale
Forma was designed for a specific client scenario: a twelve-person architecture studio in Zurich, operating at the intersection of residential and cultural commissions, whose previous website had been built in haste and communicated nothing about the quality of the practice. The work was extraordinary; the container was not. The brief was to construct a digital environment in which the portfolio could be read the way a printed monograph is read — with intention, sequence, and room to pause.
The typographic system is built on a strict vertical rhythm and a 10-column grid that never breaks its own rules. Display headings are set in a high-contrast serif at optical sizes, while body copy retreats to a narrow grotesque that makes space for image rather than competing with it. The project archive uses year and typology as primary navigation — not category tags and search bars — because a practice of this calibre earns the right to be read chronologically. The material specification system within each project page is drawn directly from architectural drawing conventions: tabular, precise, without decoration.
Forma serves practices for whom the website is not a marketing tool but a position statement. It is built for studios that win commissions through reputation and referral, and need their digital presence to confirm what a client already suspects. If your portfolio contains work that can hold a full-bleed viewport without apology, Forma is the correct vehicle. If your practice is still assembling that body of work, build it first — then return to Forma when the projects are ready.
